Create a Temporary List
Use the Temporary List feature to send a one-time message to a list of contacts and automatically delete the list after a pre-set amount of time. This is ideal for one-off campaigns where you don’t want to store contact data long-term.
The Temporary List feature must be enabled in Account Settings for this option to appear. You can also select the Retention time before deletion there. See Enable Temporary Lists to learn more.
To create a temporary list, follow these steps:
- Open the New Message page.
- In the Subject and recipients section, click + Create one-time list.
- Enter a descriptive name in List name.
- (Optional) Review the option Include information in messages about how recipients can unsubscribe from future messages. This option is enabled by default. Use the checkbox to turn it on or off as needed. See Unsubscribe Text Overview to learn more.
-
Select Next.

- Add numbers to your list using one of two methods:
- Manual tab: Type or paste phone numbers directly into the text area, separating each number with a comma or a new line.
-
CSV Upload tab: Click Choose File to upload a file from your device. When uploading a CSV file, the Create one-time list mapping dialog appears.
See Import Contacts from a Spreadsheet or File to learn more about importing and mapping data.
Temporary lists do not use predefined contact fields like regular contact lists. During the mapping step, you explicitly choose which fields from the file you want to import.
- Once all numbers have been added successfully, select Create one-time list.
Your list now appears under Selected recipients on the New Message page, where you can continue composing your message. See Send an SMS to learn more.

After sending the SMS, no further action is required. The temporary list is automatically deleted after the retention time defined in your account settings.
