Manage Custom Senders (Alphanumeric)

This guide explains how to register an alphanumeric Custom Sender. A Custom Sender lets you display your brand name or another recognizable text string instead of a phone number when sending one-way messages, such as marketing campaigns or automated alerts.

Custom Senders cannot receive replies, making them ideal for high-volume promotional campaigns or automated notifications.

To set up a Custom Sender, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the My Senders page.
  2. Click + Add sender.
  3. Enter your desired sender name, following these rules and recommendations:
    • 11-Character Limit: A Custom Sender can contain a maximum of 11 characters. If your brand name is longer, you will need to shorten it.

      Character Guidelines:

      • Use letters and numbers only.
      • Prefer UPPERCASE letters.
      • Avoid spaces.

These practices help reduce the risk that messages will be flagged by Android spam filters.

Some sender names cannot be used. Certain protected or sensitive terms (e.g. "Police" in Swedish) are automatically blocked for security and regulatory reasons.

  4. If Show custom sender labels is enabled in Account Settings, you can add an internal label to help identify this sender (up to 50 characters).

Labels are visible only within your account and make it easier to distinguish between similar sender names. When labels are enabled, tooltips appear in the sender selection dropdown to provide additional context.

  5. Click Create Sender. Your sender name will now appear in the My Senders list.

Continue to the next section to set this Custom Sender as the default.

Enable Default Custom Sender

Use this setting to automatically apply your selected Custom Sender whenever you compose a new message.

  1. Go to Account Settings from the main dashboard.
  2. Select the Messaging tab.
  3. Under SMS Sending Settings, locate Custom Sender and select Use custom sender by default.
  4. Click Save Settings.

You must select which sender should be the default in My Senders for this setting to take effect.

Once saved, the selected Custom Sender will be preselected when creating new messages.

Following these setup and character guidelines helps ensure your sender name is accepted and displayed correctly.
